It's JUST a fire engine! (Or IS it?)
Last July I posted about Dave and Diann Conquest's goal of sending a fire truck to their daughter and son-in-law at the teaching hospital in Bongolo, Gabon (Africa). Well, it's 10 months later and yesterday (Memorial Day) the newly refurbished and re-equipped truck rolled down the streets of Pittsford, NY in the Memorial Day parade. Here's a picture of the Hospital de Bongolo's E-1 Pumper! (if you click on the picture, you can see the whole writeup, as well as hi-res pictures of the truck.)
In case you missed the earlier post, the hospital in Gabon has no fire truck within 200 miles and when a fire broke out in August 2009, they were VERY fortunate that they only lost an entire storage building (and all equipment, medicines, and supplies in it), rather than the entire complex! Here's a picture of the destroyed building. And if you missed my earlier post, you can click the picture to "jump" to it.
The pumper will be commissioned this coming weekend and we HOPE to have some video to post next week. In the meantime, we congratulate Dave and Diann: You've Made a Difference!
